The VAMC in Memphis, Tennessee is recruiting for an Interventional Cardiologist to serve as a full-time medical service physician. The position is accountable to the Chief, Medicine Section of the Medical Services Department for assuring the most effective delivery of state-of-the-art Interventional Cardiology care by meeting or exceeding compliance standards. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Certification in Cardiovascular Diseases and Certification in Interventional Cardiology. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. ["Duties may include but are not limited to: Clinical practice, supervising and teaching Cardiology fellows, residents, and medical students. The applicant will be required to give didactic lectures to Cardiology fellows and participate in academic activities such as journal review, grand rounds, conferences, and lectures. Providing consultation on various forms of cardiovascular disease states, both for diagnosis and treatment in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Performing and interpreting cardiac catheterization procedures as well as diagnostic and interventional coronary and peripheral procedures. Will also assist with non-invasive procedures such as stress tests, trans-thoracic or trans-esophageal echocardiograms, or electrocardiograms is so trained. Share attending call responsibilities with the other cardiologists in covering some night, weekend and holiday calls as needed. The applicant will round with the team of residents and fellows on such occasions and perform emergency procedures on patients in the Intensive Care Unit or when required the Emergency Department or Operating Room. Will be administratively responsible to the Chief, Cardiology section. Clinical oversight and supervision will be provided by the collaborating/supervising physician. Participate in all required UM/QM activities relating to the Cardiology Service/Cath Lab and address identified deficiencies in meeting relevant facility performance measures/standards of care (based upon IPEC, EPRP, OIG, and Joint Commission Requirements). Expected to be proficient in non-invasive imaging modalities including advanced echocardiogram skills, Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI. The physician will be responsible for determining patients suitable for percutaneous coronary intervention. Any patient with more than one vessel coronary disease especially involving the proximal LAD will be discussed in the Cath conference. Patients with left main or ostial LAD lesion when assigned for PCI in the Cardiology Cath Conference will undergo PCI with Surgical standby. Provide comprehensive patient care in the form of invasive, non-invasive, consultative, and inpatient/outpatient cardiology care. Central venous line insertion and management. Intra-arterial lines insertion and management. Interpret EKGs. Interpret holter monitors. Use of thrombolytic agents. Pericardiocentesis. Arterial puncture. Temporary trans venous pacemaker placement. Intra-aortic balloon pump insertion and management. Percutaneous coronary intervention, cardiac catheterization, and angiography. Peripheral arterial interventions. Stress test interpretation. Debulking devices including CSI atherectomy, rotablator, laser Angiojet for intervention for cardiovascular diseases.
